2015 Memory Jar

Happy New Year!!
I hope all you lovelies had an AMAZING year in 2014 and have an even more fabulous year in 2015!
I want to share with you this amazing idea that I have seen all over Pinterest and decided to recreate for myself!
A memory jar!

This little jar will remind you of all the amazing things that happen throughout the year! You start with an empty jar, decorate it however you want and fill it up with all the good things that happen to you. They could be funny moments, a compliment someone gave you, an act of kindness, a quote, an accomplished goal, a gift, the first time your baby walked (I'm waiting for that one myself) anything that makes you happy write it down and put it in the jar. It's a good idea to write down a date on them as well.
On New Year's Day read those notes and remember all those happy moments!

This is how I decorated my Memory Jar

Supplies
-Jar    -Markers   -Pipe cleaners   -Card-stock paper   -Ribbon   -Scissors   -Hot glue

wrote meaningful words on the back

decorated the lid with a handmade ribbon flower

You can decorate this  HOWEVER you want!!

This is ideal to start on January 1st, but better late than never!! Now that I have my daughter I think it'll be really fun to start a little family tradition for New Year's Day and remind ourselves what a great year we had. So before you forget what happened this past week go get started on your own memory jar!

Baked Apple Chips

An apple a day keeps the doctor away, right?

I was thinking outside of the box today and decided that baked apple chips will do just the same!
This recipe is so simple and so delicious you will want to make it everyday!!
Just follow these simple steps...

Slice some apples, sprinkle sugar and cinnamon over them, place them in a baking pan (make sure you have only one layer of apples) bake them at 250 degrees for an hour and a half, let them cool completely to let them harden and they are ready to eat!

It also makes for a super cute gift!!
Put some in a cute jar, tie a ribbon around it, hot glue a cute little ornament on top and there you have it! Yummy homemade apple chips for others to enjoy!

Bon Apetite!

DIY Hot Glue and Glitter Ornament

Bonjour crafty mermaids!
As Christmas approaches and everyone is putting up their Christmas trees (hopefully artificial ones) it is the perfect time to show you how to make a super simple super cute glitter ornament! And in honor of my blog launch, the supplies are literally HOT GLUE AND GLITTER how awesome is that!

Lets get started!!

SUPPLIES
  • Wax Paper
  • Dish Soap
  • Small Bowl
  • Ornament Template
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Mod Podge
  • Paint Brush
  • GLITTER (the best item)
  • Yarn
STEPS
  1. Place wax paper over your ornament template. I am using a snowflake that I drew myself, but you can use any template you'd like and you can also print one out! Pour a little bit of dish soap over the wax paper to cover your template (this will make your ornament peel off easier)

  2. Get your hot glue gun and trace over your template. Make sure you have continuous lines and the thicker the better! Let it dry completely, mine took about ten minutes, then slowly and carefully peel off your hot glue creation. You might have some wax paper attached and as long as it isn't distorting your ornament shape it is OK  the glitter will cover any bits of paper left.

  3. This is my favorite part!! Take your paint brush and add a layer of mod podge to one side of your hot glue ornament and then sprinkle it with glitter over your small bowl for easy clean up. Let it dry and do the same to the other side. Once it is completely dry add one more layer of mod podge so the glitter stays in tact.                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                          A little FYI- if you have never worked with mod podge you might be freaking out because it is white and I just told you to add a layer on TOP of your almost finished ornament, but DO NOT WORRY mod podge dries completely clear and it acts as sort of a shield for your creation ;)

  4. After it is completely dry, get your yarn, make a loop and hot glue the ends to your ornament and VOILA. When it dries you have your awesome, handmade, beautiful ornament!! You can use any color yarn, or it can be ribbon or string, or wire WHATEVER you want!
I also made a heart, and my daughters name!! The point is to have fun and get creative!! the possibilities are endless! If you have kids they would probably loveeee to join (after the hot glue part of course!)
